The autopsy as a quality assurance tool?

During the past several decades the aims of the autopsy have changed considerably. The traditional uses of autopsy were determination or confirmation of the cause and mechanism of death, research into the nature of disease and the identification of specific diseases, improvement in the practice of medicine through application of autopsy findings to clinical practice, and education of medical students.
